Ponyboy

I think that Ponyboy is restless. I say this because he been scared to do anything ever since what happen to the Soc. This would make Ponyboy weak for now, but later in life I think he will have the advantage because he has already had to go through  a lot of really hard stuff. Ponyboy at the beginning of the  book was afraid at moments but also confidant at others and now he is more brave, but also scared at times.

I liked the book. I liked the book because it wasn't one of those fairy tale endings.

CER and My opinion

My claim is that Johnny was weak from the traits he had. He was restless, scared, afraid, miserable, and kind of a fighter. Then I think he changed to become strong.
My evidence was that everybody told each other to back off when he gets mouthy, and he wanted to go home. Also he saved children from a burning church, and stayed alive for awhile when he had a broken back, in critical condition.
My Reasoning is that he didn't stand up for himself and people in his group stood up for him. Also he wanted to go home sometimes when he had to leave town. Also his story or he was in the newspaper, maybe both. Last he stayed alive for 2 to 4 days when he was in critical condition.

I like the book, and the way it went slow at the beginning and then boom, everything gets turn upside down, for everybody. My favorite part is that when Ponyboy, Dallas, and Johnny all escape the church. My least favorite part was how they had emotional connections in the rumble with the Socs.

C: Ponyboy is smart, funny, but kind of weird. It makes him weak because if he gets jumped he cries and stuff no other greasers cry besides him. He changes towards the end of the book and gets a little stronger and tougher and more cooler.

E: When he got jumped by 4 socs he got punched and kicked but he cried. When Dallas got jumped by 5 socs he didn't cry. That is what makes him tough. He is the toughest guy in the book and 1 of the toughest you will ever here of.

R: I think Dallas is the strongest and Ponyboy is the weakest.

I liked the book a lot. I liked the plot it was a good thrilling story that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. My favorite part of the book was when Johnny killed the soc because i didn't like the socs and i was glad that e was dead and i liked that they went on the run.

Final Post

I think that Johnny was very brave and he was very fearless and fearce. He help little kids that were in a burning buliding and he ended up getting really hurt. When he was saving the little kids and he was in the building when the roof clasped. He risked his life for 8 kids. The book says that his face wasnt burned, he looked very pale and he looked really sick and burned
I liked the book. I mean this book had a lot of action and you didn't know what was going to happen. This was such a good book that it sounded  like a real story and that people actually went through all of this pain and suffering. My favorite part was when Pony-boy and Johnny were jumped and Johnny pulled a switch blade on one of the Socs and killed him. I think this made both of the boys stronger.

High school clique

I don't think Pony would be very popular because of how much of a social outcast he already is in middle school. He would probably be exactly how he is now, just hanging out with all of the greasers and not paying attention to anyone else. He would definitely turn all of his work in on time and he would always try his hardest on his assignments because of Darry always pushing him further and harder to do better than he already is.

Ponyboy

The Socs keep Ponyboy away from getting what he wants. He wants to hang out with Cherry but the Socs aren't going to let him. Ponyboy feels that it's not fair and doesn't like that the Socs aren't going to let him hang out with her.

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

I think Ponyboy is nerdy. I say this because he was always ready in the beginning of the book. I think Ponyboy would turn in all of his work on time. It say this because it also said in the beginning of the book that he liked school.    Ponyboy is in high school and I think that he is the quiet the one in the back that doesn't really have a lot of friends at school. This tells me that at school he acts totally different than at his house or with his gang.

Cherry Valance

If Cherry was a part of a high-school clique then I think she'd be popular. I think she would turn in her work on time because she seems like she'd be a good student. Cherry is in high-school. She interacts good with the Socs, but doesn't interact good with the Greasers because of the Socs, and if they found out she was talking to them they'd beat up the Greasers she was hanging out with. This tells us that she cares about if they get beat up or not.

My Character

Ponyboy would be popular and he would be more of a nerd. He would turn all of his work on time, because Dally will make him. He would interact with others by trying to act cool, but his friends, will prove that he isn't. You can tell he try's to fit in with his friends and he wants to read and do work.
They would be nerdy cause they aren't too good at sports and ponyboy doesn't have a lot of friends plus he is really smart.

Yes cause he has all A's

Ponyboy doesn't interact with people at school he is the quiet 1 and he is more of a geek

Imagine that your character is part of a high-school clique..

  • Would they be popular? Sporty? Nerdy?
Pony-Boy would be a nerdy Greaser because he is part of the Greasers group. But he is actually really smart.
  • Would they turn in all of their work on time?
He would turn it in all of the time but his friends and "family" wouldn't.
  • If your character IS a high school aged student, describe how they interact at school with others. What does this tell us about them as a person?
He does really good in school and he always turn in all of his work on time. I think that this shows that he is a great smart and talented guy.

how i would rate a character in the book

I think that Ponyboy is more strong than weak, but not that strong. I think that because he had to deal with one friend dieing then he had another friend freak out and decide to basically kill himself. Also on top of that there was a rumble and he fought in it. Last he got a concussion in the rumble.

My group kind of all had the same idea, that Ponyboy was strong. The other people in my group didn't have any differences in this discussion.

I think he will because everything that happened was in his past and he can move on. Also he has other people in his life that will take care of him, if he does anything stupid.

Johnny

I think Johnny isn't weak but also isn't strong. I think he's somewhere in the middle. I think he's in the middle because he gets scared of the Socs,(weak), but he also isn't scared to stand up for his friends,(strong).
The ratings in my lit circle did not compare. Alli chose Ponyboy and said he was strong until one of the Socs got killed then he ran away and became a weak character. I think that is also true but I think that Ponyboy just gets caught up in his feelings sometimes but overall he is a strong character.
When I move on farther in the book I think Johnny will become a stronger character and learn how to stand up to the Socs and learn how to stand up for himself. I think Johnny will learn how to fight back and learn how to stand up to more people, not just the Socs but also his father.
I would say that Ponyboy was a strong character until one of the socs got killed, and then he just ran away and kind of became a weak character. One of the people in my group is doing Johnny and also said he was in the middle of weak and strong. I agree that Johnny is in the middle because he can get scared, but at the same time he will also stand up and protect his friends witch is practicality his family.

Group Discussion (Emma Gould)

My group talked about Ponyboy and the greasers. Ponyboy deserved everything that he got. Whenever Bob died, he deserved what he had gotten because he wanted to kill everybody that was rude to him or didn't like him. Cherry liked Bob a whole lot, even though he tried to drown Ponyboy, and she said that Bob wasn't just anyone and if anyone would have known him like she did that they would know that he wasn't all big and bad.

When Johnny died he told Ponyboy to stay golden. This meant that Ponyboy should always be as good and brave as he has always been. In the book Darry was mean to Ponyboy because he didn't want Ponyboy to end up like him. If you put yourself in Johnny's shoes you would know that he had protected Pony at every cost and didn't back down and loved every bit of the gang.

At the house Dally protected Johnny and Pony because the cops/fuzz were looking for them. Johnny and Pony saved a lot of little kids from a burning church because they are the ones who had started the fire with the cigarettes that they had smoked.

Outsiders 5H

Today in discussion director the overall view of the book was that the rumble happened and how and why they need pony-boy in it and why they need to win. Also questions about why pony-boy and Cherry were talking about the rumble and why the soc came clean to pony-boy. The main question was if we thought that Johnny was going to die and why.  We also brought up a little about the fire and Johnny.  The last thing we talked about was Two-Bit and how he treats people and why he would never use the pocketknife that he always carried in his back pocket.

Skylar's Blogpost

1. Ponyboy is kind of in the middle. He is not afraid to speak his mind but he also cry's when he gets beat up by the Socs. No one else cried when they got beat up.  he can get a little emotional and let's things happen to him.

2. No they didn't they all thought the same as me.

3. I think Ponyboy will get stronger in the book and make a really big thing happen. I think he may kill someone or be tougher.

summary Nolan joyce

we talked about mostly johnny dieing and dally dieing and a bunch of easy questions from the book.We also talked about how they died and the effects and why they killed bob and who killed bob.

EmmaB.

If i was talking to a main character I would talk to Ponyboy. I would tell him how stupid and brave he is. He is dumb most of the time. He can be brave though. Like when it comes to his gang or other people.

The ways ponyboy is "stupid" is because he gets into a lot of trouble. He always tries to get into fights. He smokes a lot and hes only 14. He ran away from his brothers where he wouldn't be supplied with food or shelter.

The way he is brave is that he sticks up for his gang. He also went into that church that was on fire because there were still kids in there. He went in even though Dally was yelling at him to not go in. He did end up saving those kids though.

talking to the main character- gwen noland

I would say to my main character Pony boy. That he has good people around him, even though they do bad things sometimes. That he should do what he wants, to go and do something good in the world. Because he is smart. That even though he has lost some people that life is not all bad. Just sometimes bad things happen. To use his smarts on the street to.

I would say that because he is really smart but he only uses his head in school. Also because everyone around him cares about him and that he shouldn't think that they don't like him. And that everyone picks one you because you are the youngest. That you are just the smallest ,but are smart and that you should just do what you want to do. And leave old house and do something better.

What I Say

I would say that he should turn himself and Johnny in because it was in self defense. Ponyboy and Johnny would not get in trouble because they were going to kill Ponyboy. I think that it is in self deference because you can't get in trouble for defending your self and that is what they did.

If you or your friend are being beat up you aren't going to just stand there. You are going to fight back because you could be badly hurt if you don't fight back. Johnny got scared because those kids are the same kids that beat him up bad and they were trying to kill Ponyboy by drowning him.

Johnny pulled out his switchblade and stabbed Bob in the side even though he would hurt anybody on purpose. Johnny and Ponyboy want to turn themselves in but they also don't want to get into trouble.

What Would I Say to My Character? (Emma Gould)

If I had the chance to talk to my main character I would tell them that they are being a really good friend and standing up for who he is. I would tell him that he is really brave for running away with Johnny and that he is also brave for going into the burning church to save little kids. He is going through some really hard times right now and he wants to cry but he holds it back so that it doesn't scare anyone. Johnny is in the hospital with a broken back and is about to die.

I would say this because he is being really brave and strong because first he stood up to Darry and then he he ran away with Johnny and saved little kids from a burning down church. Then his best friend is dead and he is trying to fight for him in the rumble.

I would also tell Ponyboy that he is getting stronger out of his friend dying because he has to fill a spot in his heart where Johnny used to be.

What would I say to the main character-Jozie wolf

If was talking to the main character i would say/ask, why did you save those kids in the fire? Why didn't you turn you self in when you was planning on it? I would ask questions to the main character and why he ran away when he wanted to turn himself in. I would also ask why did he freak out when he was in the ambulance and he thought he was gonna get arrested. My last question would be, Why did you start smoking at a young age?

I would ask/say these questions because, I want to know his life and why he started smoking at a young age. I also want to know what happened to his parents. I would ask more questions about his family and himself.  I want to know about his life and his family and how long hes been living Darry.  I would ask how his life has been as a greaser.

Rating Ponyboy

Image result for the outsidersWell I rated Ponyboy in the middle because he has made some dicisons on his own but he still follows what everyone else in the group does. Most of my group members agreed except one but I kind of see why she put him as a strong charecter, but i think it fits Pony better in the middle. I don't really think Pony will change because he has been the same from the beggining of the book.

Is Ponyboy Strong or Weak?

I rated Ponyboy somewhere in the middle of the scale because he really hasn't demonstrated much strength throughout where I am in the book. One person in my group put Pony pretty high up in the scale, but someone else put them around the same spot as I did.

I do think that Ponyboy's strength rating will go up higher when I get further into the book.

Ponyboy

If I had the chance to talk to Ponyboy I would say, that he needs to have more fun and be more easygoing. But he needs to be confident in himself when it comes to the Socs. He needs to not let them pick on him and stand up to them.
I would say that because he needs to know that he doesn't have to be defenseless against them. Just because they're wealthier than the Greasers doesn't mean that they have the right to beat them up. I think that he needs to be confident in himself when it comes to the Socs.
I think that Ponyboy and Cherry are going to show both the Socs and the Greasers that there doesn't have to be a rivalry. It's going to show them they can all be friends. I think in the end they're all going to get along.

What would I say to the main character

I would of asked why is he smoking when he is only 14. I would say that he shouldn't of ran away from his brothers. Also he shouldn't of took the gun Dally gave him even though it was to protect himself.

His body isn't ready for him to be smoking right now, and the places he does smoke is where he shouldn't. If he didn't run off he wouldn't of been no story. If he got caught with the gun there would of been more charges he would of had.

My last thing I would say would be, why do you not just leave town, with someone else who that is leaving because he don't want to be killed. I would ask that because, I think he wants to live instead of dying. Also he has already been in life threatening situations.

blog post 4

I would ask Ponyboy what his dream world would be. I would ask him if he likes the socs or if he wants everyone to get along.I say this because  I want to find out if the way they live is likable or if he just can't wait to move when he gets older.

I would also ask him if he wanted a sister. I would also ask him if he did a sister would she be in the gang. I would ask this question because i want to see if they allow a sibling of them or would they let a friend that is a greaser girl in the gang.

I would also ask if all of the guys of the gang knows all the bad stuff that comes with smoking. I would ask if he is planning on stop smoking when he gets older.

S.E Hinton

The author that wrote The Outsiders is S.E. Hinton. She has written 4 books, not counting The Outsiders, which are Rumble Fish, That was then this is now, Tex, The Puppy Sister, Hawkes Harbor, Some of Tim's stories, and Boy in the Burning House.

I think That SE Hinton wrote the outsiders because she lived in the same time period and wanted to write a good first novel.

Do a little research on your author???

She was born on July 22, 1948 and is age 67 right now. She has wrote multiple books. She is a amazing author, and i have not read many of her books but just reading the outsiders is good enough to say she is a amazing author.

Character Counselor

I think Ponyboy is scared, i think this is for two reasons. One Jonny is in critical condition at the hospital. Two Soda and him might get put in a boys home. But if i could talk to Ponyboy i would tell him to not worry Jonny will be okay, and Darry would never let you and soda taken away.

What would you say to your character right now?

  • If you had the chance to talk to your main character right now, what would you say to them?

I would probably tell him to spend his money wisely and it is going to be all right.
  • Why would you say it?
Because they are in a really tough situation. And if I was in the same situation that they were in I would need it too, that and a little help. Johnny is pretty tough. But since he killed a man, well now he is pretty scared. I mean he was beat up half to death and he has been terrified ever since. Pony-boy and Johnny fell asleep on the side of a curb and he didn't meet his curfew at 12. When he got home at around at 2, his brother's friend, Dally, got scared about him being out alone.
They got in a fight and Dally slapped Pony-Boy. Then Pony ran away with Johnny. They wanted to walk to the park and back just to cool off. When they got to the park, they hung out for a while. When they were about to leave, the Socs, a rich gang, started to jump them. Pony got drowned in the fountain. When he woke up, he saw Johnny with his switch blade in his hand. Pony-boy looked over and saw the head Soc., Bob, dead on the ground. Johnny was smiling.
They both knew that they were going to get caught, so they wanted to cover it up. So they went to the bar party to find the head of the Greasers, the group that they are in. When they get there he is really drunk. They tell him what happened, he gives them a coat, and $50. He got it from his friend that he did rodeos with. They were instructed to go to a empty church at the top of a hill until the coast was clear with the cops. when they got to the church they bought 2 weeks worth of food. I think that if that happened to me i would need someone to help me get through it.

Advice for Ponyboy

Ponyboy you made the right choice to turn yourself in. You also did the right thing when you jumped into that burning church to save those kids. I know you are worried about Dally and Jonny but you can't blame yourself, they chose to go in too.

The Rumble is coming up, i dont think you should participate in it. You are very tired and weak, you could get really hurt. I dont think there should even be a rumble its not going to change anything, socs and greasers just will never get along.

Well Ponyboy I dont know what you are going to do but please make good decisions, and think about what Randy said about the rumble.

About S.E. Hinton

The author for The Outsiders is S.E. Hinton.  She was born on July 22, 1948 in Tulsa. She was friends with a lot of guys and played sports with boys like football.  She got interviewed and she said that she never meant for the book to be published it just kind of happened.  She has made 9 books with a movie to 4 of them have been made. She one one child named Nick Inhofe and for education she went to the University of Tulsa and Will Rogers high school.  S.E. Hinton was 16 when she started writing the outsiders, which is impressive at that young age to write such an amazing book.  She got the idea for the story when one of her friends was walking home from school and these kids jumped him because they didn't like him being a greaser. She said she got very angry and went home and wrote about it.  Ponyboy's gang was inspired by a real-life gang.

The books with a movie made to them are, The outsiders(1967), Tex(1979), Rumble Fish(1975), and That was then....This is now(1971). The ones without the movie are,Taming the Star Runner(1988), The Puppy Sister (1995), Hawkes Harbor(2004), Big David, Little David(1995), Some of Tim's Stories(2007), The Boy in the Burning House.  There was more books but they were just collections of ll of those books.
I think that they wrote the book because they want to show that adults don't all ways have to be there for a good life. Friends can have your back too. I also think that they wrote it because hey wanted to have a book in a kids point of view.
Susan Eloise Hinton wrote "The Outsiders" when she was sixteen and went to high school in Oklahoma. She got the idea for the story when one of her friends was walking home from school and these kids jumped him because they didn't like him being a greaser. She said she got very angry and went home and wrote about it. She said, " I look back and I think it was totally written in my subconscious or something." Ponyboy's gang was inspired by a real-life gang. She said the members of the gang were very special to her. She also wrote other books. She wrote Big David, Little David, The Outsiders, The Puppy Sister, Rumble Fish, Taming the Star Runner, Tex, and That Was Then, This Is Now.

In high school she was a tomboy. She played football and her friends were mostly guys. She said when she wrote The Outsiders she never thought of it being published. But one day she told a friend and her mother wrote children's books so her friends mom read it. After that her friends mom sent it into a New York agent. The agent liked it and sent it to a second publisher. She has been her agent ever since.

about the aurthor

The author is S.E. Hinton/ Susan Eloise Hinton. She wrote the outsiders in high school because she had friends that were socs and greasers, she started on the book when she was only 15 years old. And she did not finish until she was 17 years old. She was not a member of a gang when she wrote this book,  The Outsiders.
It took her a year and a half to write the book and get it published.

She thought that it would get more attention if people thought that a boy had written it so she used S. E. on her books. She has also written Tex , That Was Then,  This Is Now, Rumble fish  ,  Yesterday, and 4 other young adult books. She wrote most of the books when she was young From around 15 to 27 years old.

S. E. Hinton

     S. E. Hinton is the author of The Outsiders. Some books Susan has wrote are, The Outsiders(1967), Rumble Fish(1975), That Was Then(1971, This is Now, Tex(1979), Taming the Star Runner(1998), The Puppy Sister(1995), etc. I think she wrote this book because, She has always enjoyed reading but wasn't satisfied with the literature that was being written for young adults, which influenced her to write novels like The Outsiders

S. E. HINTON

S. E. Hinton is my author and she was born July 22, 1948 and her first book was the outsiders published in 1967 by Viking. She went to Will Rogers High School at 17. She loved reading but wasn't satisfied so she started on he own book.

S. E. Hinton has also written Rumble Fish, Tex, and The Puppy sister and more. Her first book was The Outsiders and her most recent book was Some of Tim's Stories.

think that she wrote the outsiders because in the 1950-60 there were a lot of fights over little things and gang fights over differences, so she wrote about a gang that were greasers (low-middle class) that fight the Socs (the higher class)because of their differences and who is better.

All About the Author

The author's name is S.E. Hinton and her first book was The Outsiders, so she hasn't written any other books. She wrote the book because adults in her life influenced.
Who is the author.

Our author is a girl named S. E. Hinton and she was a author in her school years at Will Rogers High school, in Tulsa Oklahoma. She told this book from a point of view of a 14 year old boy named pony boy Curtis. She is still one of the best known child writer. I am very shy and very uncomfortable to talking to people. She said I read constantly and take classes for no credit, I enjoy horse back riding and walk my dog. A writers life gets boring when your in a room all day with a piece of paper and a pen or pencil just writing.

What have they written in the past

She has wrote since her first book in 1967 to 2007 she starts with The Outsiders then Rumble Fish then This was then, This is Now and then Tex then Taming The Star Runner then The Puppy Sister then Hawks Harbor then Big David, Little David, then Some Of Tim's Stories then The Boy In the Burning House.

Why do you think they choose to write this book

She wrote this book because there was a group kids named the Greasers and then another group of people named Socs and she started writing about there crazy adventures through her child hood and she wasn't satisfied with what she was learning so she made her own book as a teenager.

About the Author

The author of The Outsiders is S.E Hinton. S.E Hinton's name stands for Susan Eloise Hinton. She was born on July 22, 1948 in Tulsa, OK. She has one kid and she is married to David Inhofe. The schools that she had went to are University of Tulsa and Will Rogers High School. She was 17 years old whenever she had written and published her very first book The Outsiders. This book was published in 1967 while she was attending Will Rogers High School.

The thing that influenced her to start writing and publishing books was whenever she was reading the books for young adults, she didn't like the literature that was being written in them, so she decided to start to write books herself. She has written 10 books. These books are The Outsiders, Rumble Fish, That was Then This is Now, Tex, Taming the Star Runner, The Puppy Sister, Hawkes Harbor, Big David Little David, Some of Tim's Stories and The Boy in The Burning House.

She wrote The Outsiders because she she didn't like the literature in all of the other young adult books that she had read, so she tried to write books herself and she turned out very successful and now she has continued to write books and she has written very many books that many, many people read.

(EmmaB.) about the author

The author is S.E. Hinton. She has written many books. A couple of them are Rumble fish, That was then, this is now, and Tex she has written many more. Another book is taming the star runner, The puppy sister, and a picture book big David , Little David. The outsiders was her first novel.
I think she wrote this book because she wanted to show how her life was around the age 16. I think this because she wrote this book when she was 16. She wanted to tell how society was split. There were two groups the populars (a.k.a. rich people) and the normals (a.k.a. people with not a lot of money). She might have had home problems like Ponyboy the main character. His parents died and she could have gotten hit like him and wanted to run away. She could have had a gang like him too.

Author research-Jozie Wolf

The author is, S.E. Hinton. She is 67 years old she has written 8 other books. She wrote the book because, she has always enjoyed reading. she loves writing for young adults. The Outsiders gave her publicity, and fame.

Do a little research about your author!

  • Who is your author?
My author is S. E. Hinton

  • What have they written in the past?
They have written Rumble Fish, That was then is now, Tex, Taming the star runner.

  • Why do you think that they wrote this book?
I think that they wrote this book because she wanted to entertain the readers.

(Melia) S.E. Hinton

The author of the outsiders is S.E. Hinton. Her full name is Susan Eloise Hinton, but as you can see she goes by her initials. She has wrote many books, especially in her younger years. For example she has wrote Rumble Fish, That Was Then. This Is Now, Tex, Taming The Star Runner, and many more. She is best known for her book The Outsiders, even though that was the first book she had published.
When she wrote this book she was in high school, so I think that had a big effect on this story. This book has greasers and Socs. In high school there are popular people and the not so popular people, so I think that's where the two different classes come in. I did some research on this topic and found out some of the more popular kids beat her friend up when they were walking home so you can see where this connects with the book. She said she started this book to blow off steam, and it went somewhere.

Olivia Main Conflict-

I think it is Man vs. Man because when Ponyboy had a flashback about Jonny and how the Socs beat him up very badly. Man vs. Man is when someone and someone else are having a conflict. In this case Jonny was walking home and the mustang pulled up in the book it says there was a lot of them. It says that Jonny's face was cut in all places and that one of the Socs who beat him up was wearing rings.

I also think it is Man vs. Man because in the book the Greasers are always getting beat up by the Socs. The Socs were always the bullies. When the mustang pulls up the greasers know there with be trouble.

man vs. society

I feel that so far it is man vs. society. The characters are having problems with the " rich kids" or "socs", and then because one of them killed a greaser. Ponyboy and Johnny had to leave because of it.  The scos think they are better that the greasers because they have more money than them. I think things will workout and everything will be okay, but I do think that they will have some problems and will have to find out where they are going to go and if they will be safe.

Gwen .N problem in story

The conflict is Man v.s. man and man v.s. society
Man v.s. Man is the greasers and the socs. They are two different groups one is in the lower class and one is in the higher class. But they are fighting or not getting along because of the class they are in. The main characters are the greasers and the main conflict with them is that they are not being fought fairly because the socs think they are better because they have more money.

So far there has been one big conflict were the socs beat up pony boy and nearly killed him.
I do not think that the character will solve the conflict without causing more harm. Because that is the whole thing they harm each other the greasers will do something then the socs will do something, that is just how it works. I do not even think that the problem will be solved unless the greasers move up in the social class and get more money, nicer things, and change. And I don't think that is going to happen.

(EmmaB.) conflict

The conflict is man vs. man. Ponyboy is struggling with girls. He thinks that he can't get a girl that is a soc. When the socs came up to Cherry and Marcia they tried to get them back. Two-Bit got out his switch blade. Cherry flipped and left with the socs. Two-Bit apologized.
I think that Ponyboy will try and fix his problem. Before Cherry left with the socs, he told her that he would never cut anyone. She said "I know". Although Cherry kind of said that she liked Darry. There might be another problem in the future.

Celeste H

I think that you are right when you said that he was shy and that he warmed up to others. I think this because he didn't know why he could talk to Cherry but he could. I think it is because she was the first Soc friend that he has ever had.

Main Conflict

The main conflict of this book so far is man vs. man, and man vs. self. The characters are struggling with rivalry, there are two groups, (greasers and socs), and they hate each other and always get in fights. What makes PonyBoy get into trouble more is that his parents died when he was younger. I think PonyBoy will try to say out of trouble but will end up getting in more trouble while doing so.

The Main Conflict - Emma Gould

The main conflict in The Outsiders is man vs. man. I think this because it is always a battle between the Greasers and the Socs. The characters in this story fight against being a greaser or a soc. The characters are struggling against who is who and who is allowed in what places. For example, the field where the greasers go to play football and all different sports, the socs aren't allowed to go their.

One of the main characters in this book had gotten into a fight with one of the socs. The soc beat him up pretty badly to where he was knocked out and just laying there on the ground. This is man vs. man because the greaser is in a fight with some other socs.

I don't think that the characters will solve his problem without harming anything or anyone because in the chapter before Johnny had said that if anyone ever beat him up like that again or even tried to, then he would always carry a switchblade and use it if he had to.

Main Confict

The main conflict with The Outsiders is that a lot of Socs are beating up Greasers. This is a problem because the Greasers are getting mad and starting fights with the Socs and breaking glass bottles and defending themselves with them. This is a Man VS. Society. because this is a big problem because people are getting badly hurt. Johnny has beat up half to death and he was angry when he saw the people that beat him up. I don't think that this will be solved without causing more harm because there seems like all the Socs want to do is fight.

man vs. society

The characters are struggling with the soc. It was made even worse when one of the soc. got killed by a greaser, and Pony boy and Johnny had to leave. I think that they will get it figured it out without more harm, but will have a few more little problems.

What is the book's main conflicts

The characters are struggling with the socs. It was made worse when one soc was killed by a greaser and PonyBoy and Johnny had to leave. I think that something is going to happen and the conflict is going to be solved with no harm. I think out of the four conflicts, that it would be man vs man.

Ponyboy

My first impression on PonyBoy was a young boy who didn't really know where he fit in. His actions tell us about who he is because it shows what his personality is. We have learned that PonyBoy's dislikes are the Socs, his habits are wearing blue jeans, slicking his hair back, and getting in trouble, he likes hanging out with the Greasers and hanging out with his brothers. I like PonyBoy because he is sorta like every teenager, he gets confused and he gets scared, but he also likes to have fun.

The Outsiders conflict

The characters struggling in my story are Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry are all struggling to stay alive and to keep living. Ponyboy got beat up by the Socs on the side of the street. No i do not cause that is not who they are. They are the people that if you mess with them, their family, or their friends then you will pay the price.

Main Conflict- The Outsiders

I believe the main conflict is man vs. society. In the story ponyboy and his brothers are forced to live in a society where they are the lowest class, and they are beat up and tortured by socs.  Ponyboy and his brothers are greasers and the lowest class in the book. In the story he struggles to live, he can't even walk home sometimes without being beat up or even almost killed by the socs. I believe the main conflict is man vs. society.

Man v.s society

I think the conflict is man vs society this is because there are two social classes. There are the socs and the greasers, the socs are high class people with lots of money. On the other hand the greasers are low class people, who don't have alot of money. This system is terrible i think everyone should be equal but im not too sure the socs agree. I do not think that the chareters will be able to resolve this conflict without using harm.

The Outsiders Conflict

In my opinion I believe that the type of conflict is man vs society. At first I thought this would be man vs man because of the whole feud between the greasers and socs but really the greasers are more outcasts from normal society and are frowned upon by regular people. I do not think that they will be able to solve the conflict without causing harm.

Tyler: I like how you think that he is lacking common sense because he never uses his brain. This is funny because everyone tells him that. I like that you are saying that because of what we have read.

Respond

Emma G.
You think about Ponyboy like he is the best person and that is a good thing because even though he does bad things like smoke or breaking the law. I think that's cool because you look past the bad things he does and look at the good things. Example he sat by the girls because they wanted protection.

Morgan-Discussion Reflection

I was the discussion director and in my story the outsiders there was one questions I am still hung up about. First of all there is a social class ranking from highest (socs) to lowest (greasers), but what I don't understand is who is in charge? Is there a tyrant, king, government, or is the highest ranking meaning the socs in charge? My group believes the highest ranking class is in charge which we believe as of now is the socs. So in conclusion we believe so far the socs would be in charge!

Ponyboy

I feel like Ponyboy is one of the less wild people in the greaser group. His love for movies and books also shows that he is one of the more intelligent minded greasers, but he also doens't have a lot of common sense.

I've learned that Ponyboy really like books and movies and drawing. His brother ,Darry, pushes him to do his best in school. He doesn't drink like a lot of the other greasers but he does smoke quite a bit.

For the most part I do like Ponyboy but he does do some bad things, but not as bad as other greasers. I think he would probably do a lot worse if Darry weren't there to stop him.

The Outsiders

Why do I like this book so far? - I like this book so far because it talks about how there were different groups of people, kind of like school there are groups.
How does this book relate to your life? - This book relates to my life because ponyboy likes movies and I like movies.

outsiders

My book is The Outsiders and so far the book isn't really like my life at all well besides that my older brother doesn't like me either. I like the book. I have already read this book and it has been one of my favorites since I read it last year. I like the book because it isn't like one of those made up perfect life story's.

(Celeste H) What I think about Ponyboy

How do their actions tell me about who they are?

I feel as Ponyboy is somewhat shy and quiet. When he was at the movies with some girls he really didn't talk as much at first. I also saw that it takes Ponyboy time to warm up to others, but I think he will kinda change later in the book. He doesn't stand up for himself that well, that's why he gets into that kind of trouble and fights.

What have I learned about their habits, likes, and dislikes?

Ponyboy is proud to be a greaser. Also he loves hair and his home town. Ponyboy is somewhat poor and doesn't have as much money as the "Socs". Ponyboy says that the Greasers are more crazy or "wilder" than the Scos.  Ponyboy lives with his brothers since his parents died in a auto wreck.

Do you like or dislike your main character? Why?

I don't really know how I feel about Ponyboy. He has his ups and downs, but over all I like him. Ponyboy does some bad things but that's only because he is a Greaser and he kinda has too, but he tries to be good/get better. I think Ponyboy will be my favorite character, but we will have to see!

(EmmaB.) Impression of the main character

The main character in The Outsiders is called Ponyboy. He has a weird name but he likes it as he said. That shows me that he is confident. He gets pushed around a lot so he might be weak. He also depends on his brothers to back him up so he might be shy. Since he could not get away from the Socs and they pined him down he could not be very strong but it was 5 against 1 I guess its okay. when he got cut by the Socs he didn't notice so he might not be very aware of his surroundings.
I like this character because he doesn't want to fit in with the crowd. He likes different people then his gang does. His gang like the girls like them (Greasers) but he likes the Soc girls. He is very loyal to his gang too. When they went to the movies Ponyboy backed up his friend when a girl was talking bad about his and calling him trash. He puts his friends first. Friends come before relationships.

What I think about the book and how I relate

I think the book got off at a slow start but it starts to get better.  Like it just talks about stuff in the past and what greasers and socs are. I relate to the book because I have a group of friends, like Ponyboy's.

(Emma Gould) - What I Think About the Main Character

The main character in my book is Ponyboy. Ponyboy is apart of the greasers and he is only in his teen years.  Ponyboy is the kind of kid who likes to watch movies and read books. Greasers don't usually have that kind of hobby. So I guess you could say that Ponyboy isn't a normal greaser. Ponyboy smokes cigarettes because he says that it calms him down. Since Ponyboy is a greaser, he gets in a lot of fights. Fights aren't really his favorite. Ponyboy gets beat up a lot by the socs. I guess that this kind of information on him tells me that he is a smart and intelligent boy.

I do not dislike Ponyboy because he stands up for he thinks is right or wrong and he isn't afraid to say what is on his mind. If he gets in a fight with a soc then he tells his brothers if they ask him why he is so beat up. He is smart and he doesn't care that he different from any other person in his group. He doesn't care that nobody else in his group don't read or watch movies. He is just proud to be him and he doesn't care if anyone makes fun of him for being himself.

What impression do you have on your main charcter.
my impression on my charaacter is that pony boy is scared and shy and hates standing up or talking to people. Just like when he was going to the movies with a 2 girls and he just stood there no words came from his mouth at all he just stood and was shy and scared probably to say anything.

How do their actions tell us who they are.
His action tell us he doesn't do much or when he does he doesn't like talking to people he doesn't know just like when he went to the movies his actions were quiet and didn't say anything.

What have we learned about their habits.
pony boys habits were lacking common sense and many other things related to that if anyone asked him questions he would act dumb.

Do you like or dislike your character.
I like my character he is shy and brave all in one wow what a character and I can't wait to read more of the book.

Gwen N.

Their actions tell me that they sometime care but most of the time they don't. They really try to seem tough around people because they don't ant to get hurt by their enemies.  The people don't really have habits from what I have tread so far , they usually just do different stuff. But I guess you could say that hanging out with each other is one of the habits.
They like to act bad and they don't like show their emotions to other people besides the people that they are really close to. I like my main character because he is like the one that everyone turns to he always has his friends back. He acts like he is tough but he is really a normal person with feeling just like everyone else. Also there is not a good reason to not like him.

Ponyboy and His Brothers

I think Ponyboy is adventurous and wants to try new things. I think this because so far in the book Ponyboy has made close friends with a girl Soc he is different than the other greasers because of the things he does. Ponyboy likes to read, and makes good grades at school. I thinks that he is scared of his bother Darry  because Ponyboy is always talking to Sodapop of how Darry is always yelling at him because he is always doing the wrong thing. Darry has yelled at him because he is outside play catch and that he needs to do homework, or he is inside and Darry yells at him because he needs to be outside playing catch. Sodapop, Darry, and Ponyboy are brothers and their parents died so they are looking out after one each other.
Habits they had were getting into fights, smoking, drinking, and going to the movies. They liked breaking the rules and doing things their own way. Some dislikes are Socs, and getting told what to do.
It is good. It doesn't.

(Melia) Opinions on Ponyboy

I think Ponyboy is shy and doesn't talk that much. When he went to see a movie with his friends they met these girls and he was quiet and didn't say much to them at first. I think he also gets scared easily and doesn't do anything when he gets scared. Like in the very beginning he didn't do anything when the Socs were being mean to him.
I've noticed he really likes his hair and where he's from, he's proud to be a greaser. He really likes his brother Sodapop, but doesn't really like his brother Dally. Ponyboy is really smart and goes to school, unlike his brother who dropped out. I think Darry cares about Ponyboy, if he doesn't get a good education and doesn't live a good life or if he gets an education and is living okay for a greaser.
I think the main character is alright, I don't like or dislike him yet. I think he has some good qualities and some bad qualities. I think the fact that he can't stand up for himself is a bad thing, but I think he has a good group of friends to watch over him and so I think that is a good thing.

About us

In The Outsiders group there is Maddison, Gwen, Olivia, and Emma.

Emma~ What made me interested in this book was the intro and how the word "Knife" and how it said that some one took it too far.

Maddison~I am interested in this book because on the back it talks about greasers getting beat up and how they take it too far one night and that just sounds cool to me.

Olivia~ I think I will like this books because people are getting bullied and it is interesting topic.

Gwen~  Why I wanted to read this book is, because it talks about all the things I look for in a book.

About Us

Hi we are Jozie,Melia,Alicia, and Nolan and we are reading The Outsiders. We are going to tell you about what we are like as readers and what made us interested in this book.

Jozie- I am a good reader and I wanted to read this book because I read this book last year and I wanted to read it again.

Alicia-  i am like a really good reader and I like this book because I like to read about the gangs and how it was like for the greasers and socs growing up.

Melia- I like to read series of books. I like how they have more to them and keep going unlike a book that leaves you hanging when it comes to the end. I think what most interested me in this book was that the end something happens, I think most people can figure out what happens because of the clues it gives us on the back of the book, but it just seemed interesting.

Nolan- I am a really good reader and i wanted to read this book because i thought someone was getting murdered.

Welcome!

Welcome to your Literature Circle's blog! You will be using this space to discuss and share your ideas with other Bode students reading your chosen book. Before we get started, here's a refresher on how we use our blogs at Bode!

When Posting...

  1. Reread your post for mistakes before you post it!
  2. Don't bother other peoples' posts! You are sharing this space. Don't open a post unless you are its author.
  3. Focus on your responses-- not fancy fonts, not cutesy pictures, not making people laugh. This is a space for you to dig into and discuss the text!
  4. Use images if you want, but don't use them if they are distracting. Any posts with distracting visuals will lose points when graded-- only use meaningful pictures.
  5. Don't spoil the book for anyone!

When responding...

  1. Don't be a jerk when you reply to a blog post. Correcting spelling and grammar is ALWAYS off-limits-- that's not your job! Your response should be positive and supportive of your peer's writing. If you don't agree with what they are posting, that's fine! Just make sure that when you express your opinion, you do it in a way that isn't mean or insulting. Your goal is to add to a conversation-- not to shut one down. Remember! If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!
  2. If something isn't clear or is left untouched in the original post, ask away! Comments are a great way to suggest new blog posts or to begin a conversation.
  3. Don't just say "I agree" and move on-- dig into the text! Use what you already know to spark a discussion!
  4. Don't spoil the book for anyone!
