The main conflict in The Outsiders is man vs. man. I think this because it is always a battle between the Greasers and the Socs. The characters in this story fight against being a greaser or a soc. The characters are struggling against who is who and who is allowed in what places. For example, the field where the greasers go to play football and all different sports, the socs aren't allowed to go their.
One of the main characters in this book had gotten into a fight with one of the socs. The soc beat him up pretty badly to where he was knocked out and just laying there on the ground. This is man vs. man because the greaser is in a fight with some other socs.
I don't think that the characters will solve his problem without harming anything or anyone because in the chapter before Johnny had said that if anyone ever beat him up like that again or even tried to, then he would always carry a switchblade and use it if he had to.
